Geekdom

You should probably only read this page if you already think that I'm a sad individual... if you don't think that already then please stop reading this now! Hopefully it wont be too late to stop you from getting a bad impression of me!

Now, I don't exactly strive to be a geek, but still probably some people would describe me as one... I don't have the stereotypical buck-teeth and black thick rimmed glasses traditionally donned by members of the geek culture, however I guess many would still say that some of my actions rest in the land of Geekdom... indeed some would even say that the fact I have my own web page is enough to commit to the geek world for good!

I could have a vote to see who thinks I look like a geek, but that in itself would probably be seen as pretty geekish and I think I would be too scared of the outcome anyway so I'll shy away from that one if you don't mind!

I can't quite decide whether to fight of be proud of the geek image; I do like technology and many of the things which it has brought us, but I'm not really convinced that I want the nerd image...

Anyway, I've collected together onto this page some of the more geeky aspects of my life... if they do turn out to be a bad thing then at least I'm getting them all out of the way in one place!

Geek Code

Again for those who don't know it, geek code is a special way of describing your interests and experience... I'm not quite sure who this is really of use to, but hey maybe it'll help you find out more about me if you're really that interested!!! So here is mine:

-----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK-----
Version: 3.1
GCS d- s a-- C++$ ULSAH+++$ P++$ L++$ E+>++ W++ N++ o-- K- w++ O---
M- V- PS PE++ Y+ PGP+ t 5 X+ R- tv b DI+ D+ G e++ h r-->r+++ y+
------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------

If you're not a G+++ (or if you don't know what a G+++ is) then you can take a look at the Geek Code Website from where you'll be able to decode my geek code and even create your own.

IRC

I first got dragged onto IRC (Internet Relay Chat) a few years ago by a good friend of mine. Prior to using it myself I have to say that I had taken the piss out of him a little calling him sad for using it. However I have to say that after using I soon changed my mind and became rather hooked on it. I talked to so many people and at the time I was a frequent visitor to channel England. Since then I haven't used it quite as much, but I still do make it onto there fairly regularly.

For those who don't know it, IRC is a chat system which allows you to talk to people all over the world. I've certainly made lots of good friends from using IRC and I've even met up with some of them face to face too!

So if you're an IRC user then do look out for me next time you're on there... you can often find me on IRCnet or EFnet using the nickname Jarvis.

PGP

Now, I can't really say that I'm a frequent user of PGP... I really don't usually need that kind of privacy... I do however have a key pair, so if anyone feels the need to send me encrypted mail or whatever then you can go ahead...

My public key is held on the key servers, so just go to one of those and give it my email address and it should give you my public key in return.
