The Early Years

Penistone

I spent the first eighteen years of my life or so living in a small town called Penistone in the north of England. [Well, that's a bit of a lie as I spent the first couple of years in a place called Honley, but I can't remember those years so that doesn't really count].

Penistone is a small, fairly dreary town in South Yorkshire. Some people like it, but I can't really say that I'm a big fan. It gets cold, wet and windy during the winter, and during the summer it gets cold, wet and windy too. There is a fairly nice 'Pictorial Tour Of Penistone' so you can take a look at that to find out more about the town and see lots of pictures. The arial photo on the left is in fact from that site too.

Family

Naturally, being a kid, I lived with my parents during this time and so I'll use it as an excuse to put something about them here. When I lived in Penistone I lived in the family home with my parents that you can see on the left along with my only sister Fiona, who hopefully will be a bit happier now that I've put a more recent picture of her on here.

There were also two goldfish for a time, but they died in a tragic 'accident'. At least my mom says it was an accident, I'm still not convinced! (They were floating on the surface one morning after my mom had cleaned the tank the day before... she claims that she did clean off all the detergent before putting the fish back in...)

I did have plenty of arguments with my family, and especially my sister, when I was growing up but I guess that's the norm? I suppose that I get on better with them these days although I only really see them about once a year...

School Time

School was definately a chore for me, I didn't really find it interesting at all and consequently I didn't work too hard. I was always late with my homework if it got completed at all. I never really started to think until I got to university.

I stumbled through the schools in Penistone and managed to scrape enough results to get into Staffordshire University... more on that in the next section.

Moving On

All in all I wouldn't say that I was so happy during my childhood and I was more than happy when I knew that I was going away to university and the chance of a new start...
