Goals

The primary goal of this project is to have a device that I can connect to my TV in my bedroom to view content stored and recorded elsewhere in our house. The main goals are to be able to:

  • Watch Programmes Recorded By My TiVo
  • Watch MPEG Files Stored On My File Server
  • Listen To Music Stored On My File Server
  • View Images Stored On My File Server
  • Watch DVDs
I'm going to do this by building a Linux based system running on an ASUS Pundit device and using MythTV Frontend software to achieve the above.

Note that this is a bit different from most MythTV Frontends in one important respect: I won't be using any MythTV Backend to record programmes, all my recordings are beind done by my TiVo device and the MythTV Frontend is being used to view those.

There are also some secondary 'nice to have' features that I'll try and get working if possible:

  • Make Use Of Pundit Memory Card Reader - Images/Music
  • Try Out Other MythTV Modules - MythWeather/MythGame

Status

7th September 2003 - All the OS installation is done, including getting the network, graphics and audio up and running. I've started getting the MythTV software installed and working now. So far I have the MythTV Frontend working and I have the MythTiVo plugin working so that I can now stream from my TiVo to the Pundit. The MythTiVo part still needs documenting here though.

Next I need to work on getting the remote control working and a different window manager installed.
